Kenya’s Junior Stars will renew their rivalry with Uganda Junior Cranes in the finals of the 2023 Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) Under-18 championships on Friday at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.
Kenya made the finals after knocking out Tanzania 4-3 in post-match penalties of the semifinals.
After playing out to a barren draw in the opening 90 minutes and 30 minutes of extra time, the two teams had to be separated through spot kicks that saw Kenyan goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala emerge the hero.
Wanjala saved two spot kicks to send Kenya through the finals.
This is after captain Amos Wanjala, Collins Onguo, Humphrey Aroko and Syphas Owuor scored their penalties with Stanley Omondi the only Kenyan to miss from 12 yards.
On the other hand, Uganda knocked out Rwanda 1-0 in the other semifinals.
Kenya will face off against Uganda on Friday.
Rwanda will play Tanzania in the third-place playoffs.
