Tanzanian giants Simba AC secured a vital victory in the resumption of TotalEnergies CAF Champions League action on Tuesday, December 19, as they hosted Morocco’s Wydad AC in a grudge match.
Eager to redeem themselves after a 1-0 defeat in the previous encounter, Simba displayed dominance in front of their passionate crowd.
Simba outclassed Wydad with a clinical 2-0 triumph, courtesy of a first-half brace by Leandre Willy Onana. This win propels Simba to second place in Group B, just behind Asec Mimosas, who secured a 3-0 victory over Jwaneng Galaxy in Lubumbashi in a simultaneous fixture.
In another challenging clash, Mamelodi Sundowns secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against Pyramids FC, breaking the goalless stalemate from the previous weekend.
Teboho Mokoena’s 17th-minute goal elevated the South Africans to the top of Group A with 7 points, tied with Mazembe but leading with a slightly better goal difference. Mazembe, hosting Nouadhibou in Lubumbashi, comfortably secured a 2-0 win, intensifying the race for the top spot in Group A.
Meanwhile, in Luanda, ES Tunis managed to secure a point by holding Petro de Luanda to a frustrating 0-0 draw. The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League’s Match Day 4 concludes with an exciting clash on Wednesday, featuring Tanzanian champions Young Africans welcoming Ghana’s Medeama FC.
