Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have decided to part ways with their Brazilian coach, Leonardo Martins Neiva, just five months into his tenure.
The club’s announcement, which came on Sunday, followed a 3-2 home defeat to league leaders BUL Jinja FC. The termination, by mutual consent, was effective from 23 December 2023, marking a premature end to Neiva’s two-year contract.
In a statement, Vipers SC expressed gratitude for Neiva’s services and extended best wishes for his future endeavors.
Neiva, who took charge in July with the goal of securing more titles for Vipers SC, faced an unexpected departure after the disappointing home loss.
His coaching experience spans various regions, including North America, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and multiple African countries.
The decision raises questions about the team’s performance under Neiva’s guidance and the circumstances leading to the abrupt termination.
As Vipers SC seeks to navigate the rest of the season, the search for a new coach will undoubtedly be a priority to maintain their standing in the Uganda Premier League.
