Ghana took a significant stride towards the upcoming 13th African Games as it unveiled the torch for the prestigious event , accompanied by plans for a torch relay spanning five African nations to drum up support.
Reks Brobby, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the Local Organizing Committee, proudly displayed the torch to the public, heralding the commencement of a relay journey that will commence from the heart of Accra, Ghana’s capital.
The relay, aimed at garnering enthusiasm and support for the Games, is set to traverse through Egypt, Kenya, Cameroon, Nigeria, and South Africa, before circling back to Ghana. Brobby outlined that the torch would also make stops at various regional capitals within Ghana before the grand opening of the Games.
Crafted by a Chinese company, the torch arrived in Ghana last week and was formally presented to the Ministry of Youth and Sports by the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, which facilitated its procurement.
The torch relay and the unveiling ceremony serve as pivotal milestones in the lead-up to the 13th African Games, slated to commence in Ghana on March 8. With anticipation building and preparations in full swing, Ghana is poised to welcome athletes and spectators from across the continent for an exhilarating showcase of talent and sportsmanship.
