Zambia’s Irene Lungu is gearing up for a crucial showdown as she sets her sights on securing a second consecutive Olympic qualification for her nation, with Ghana standing in their path. Lungu, a vital midfielder for the Zambian women’s national team, expressed confidence ahead of their Paris 2024 Olympics first leg qualifier against Ghana, scheduled for Friday.
The Copper Queens, fresh off their debut appearance at the 2021 Olympics, are determined to make their mark once again on the global stage. Lungu, who plays for BIIK Shymkent in Kazakhstan, emphasized the team’s readiness and eagerness to secure maximum points in the upcoming clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.
“Everyone is ready, and we have been pushing ourselves,” Lungu stated, exuding confidence in her team’s preparation. “The first match in Ghana is important because if we get the three points, then we are good to go. Our aim is to win in Ghana.”
Despite the pressure of playing away from home, Lungu remained steadfast in her belief that the Copper Queens would deliver a stellar performance. “Pressure is there but the only pressure is to carry home the maximum three points. That is the pressure that we have,” she affirmed.
