Burundian coach Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan has parted ways with Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC, barely eight games into Malawi’s elite TNM Super League season, following two consecutive defeats.

The seven-time TNM Super League champions have confirmed in a statement that the former coach for Rwanda’s Kivoyu FC and Tanzania’s Mbeya City Council FC walked out on his contract two months after he joined Wanderers.

“Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 2021 Limited’s Board and Management have received and accepted the resignation of its head coach, Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan, effective 26 May 2024,” a statement reads.

“Subsequently, the club has appointed assistant head coach Meck Mwase as the interim head coach until further notice.”

The 56-year-old Ramadhan quit Wanderers on Sunday barely a day after suffering an away 2-0 defeat to Mzuzu City Hammers, his second back-to-back league defeat by a similar margin following the previous week’s loss to leaders Silver Strikers.

Fans for the Blantyre-based giants bayed for the blood of the 56-year-old after the loss to Hammers at Mzuzu Stadium in the Northern Region. The loss left the Nomads in fifth place, 10 points behind the leaders Silver after having won thrice, drawn thrice and lost twice in the 16-member league.

Ramadhan first arrived in Malawi in 1996 and went on to carve out a reputation as a cult-hero for defending champions Bata Bullets, now FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, a team he rejoined in 2014 in between an initial stint with Wanderers in 2001.

Wanderers, who are owned by business magnate Thom Mpinganjira, are desperate to end a seven -year drought for the league championship.

And the start to the season has not been inspiring for the oldest club in Malawi which has the second most following after Bullets.

A football season in Malawi runs from April to December due to poor infrastructure such as stadiums which are prone to water logging in the rainy season.
