Cameroon and Gambia secure convincing wins in FIFA World Cup qualifiers

In a weekend filled with thrilling football action, Cameroon and Gambia emerged as the standout performers, clinching resounding victories in their respective 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

The Stade Omnisport Roumdé Adjia in Cameroon witnessed a masterclass from the Indomitable Lions as they roared to a commanding 4-1 triumph over Cape Verde.

From the outset, Cameroon asserted their dominance, with Michael Ngadeu opening the scoring in the 13th minute with a powerful header, setting the tone for the match.

Captain Vincent Aboubakar further solidified Cameroon’s lead with a clinical finish in the 25th minute, expertly assisted by Moumi Ngamaleu.

Although Cape Verde briefly threatened a comeback with a goal from Jamiro Monteiro, Cameroon swiftly responded, with Aboubakar converting a penalty just before halftime.

The second half saw no respite for Cape Verde as Nouhou Tolo found the back of the net in the 54th minute, sealing Cameroon’s victory and propelling them joint top of Group D alongside Libya.

Meanwhile, over in Gambia, the national team delivered an equally impressive performance, overpowering Seychelles with a commanding 5-1 win at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.

Gambia wasted no time asserting their authority, with Muhammed Badamosi opening the scoring in the 10th minute.

Despite a brief response from Seychelles, Gambia regained control in the second half, with Musa Barrow converting a penalty to restore their lead. Yankuba Minteh extended Gambia’s advantage before Badamosi secured his brace with another goal, assisted by Barrow.

The final blow came from Adama Sidibeh, capping off a dominant display from Gambia and securing their first victory of the qualifying campaign.

The comprehensive wins for both Cameroon and Gambia provide a significant boost as they continue their quest for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With momentum on their side, Cameroon gears up for a crucial clash against Angola, while Gambia looks ahead to their matchup against Gabon.
