Kenya, Nigeria and Zambia drawn into tough groups for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

Date:

Following Saturday night’s draw for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, Nigeria, Kenya, and Zambia have discovered their group stage opponents for the tournament set to take place in the Dominican Republic this October.

Nigeria, a seasoned participant in the tournament, was placed in Group A alongside the host nation Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand.

The Flamingoes, who have a history of strong performances, will be aiming to advance deep into the competition and improve on their previous outings.

Kenya, making their debut in this prestigious event, finds themselves in a challenging Group C. The Kenyan squad will face tough matches against North Korea, Mexico, and England.

Despite their newcomer status, the Kenyan team is eager to leave a lasting impression on the global stage.

Zambia completes the trio of African representatives, competing in Group D against formidable opponents including 2014 champions Japan, as well as Poland and Brazil.

To progress from this competitive group, the Zambian team will need to deliver exceptional performances.

This tournament offers a significant opportunity for these African teams to showcase their talent and contribute to the growing influence of the continent in women’s football.

Nigeria, in particular, will be looking to leverage their strong tradition in youth tournaments to make a substantial impact.

Reigning champions Spain will begin their title defense in Group B, where they will face the USA, South Korea, and Colombia.

The Spanish team will aim to replicate their success from the 2022 edition and continue their dominance.

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup kicks off on October 16, with the final scheduled for November 3 in Santo Domingo.

This edition will be the last to feature 16 nations, as the tournament expands to 24 teams for the 2025 event in Morocco.

The upcoming competition promises to deliver exciting matches and memorable moments as young talents from around the world compete on the grand stage.
