Kenya: Over 150 East African Lady Golfers set to compete in Ladies Coast Open 2024

With anticipation building, more than 150 of East Africa’s finest lady golfers are gearing up for the highly anticipated Ladies Coast Open 2024, set to unfold across Kenya’s scenic Coastal Golf Clubs from 5th to 10th August.

Organized under the auspices of the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU), this prestigious tournament promises a week of fierce competition and camaraderie.

Under the leadership of KLGU Chairman Jane Babsa Nzibo and Coast representative Teresia Odoo, preparations for the event are in full swing. “We are delighted with the organization so far and expect a memorable tournament,” remarked Odoo, highlighting the significant regional and international participation expected.

Participants hailing from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda will converge to showcase their prowess over a series of challenging courses. The tournament not only celebrates the skill and dedication of these athletes but also aims to inspire the next generation of female golfers across the continent.

“The event will elevate Kenya as a golfing and tourism destination,” noted Odoo, emphasizing the tournament’s role in showcasing the country’s sporting prowess on the global stage.

The logistical efforts behind the tournament have been formidable, with the Coast Lady Captains playing a pivotal role in its organization. Caroline Mokaya (Diamonds Leisure Golf Club), Fiona Mbandi (Mombasa Golf Club), Maria Mariga (Nyali Golf and Country Club), Hamida Chidagaya (Malindi Golf Club), and Sue Williams (Vipingo Ridge Golf Club) have united to ensure a seamless experience for participants and spectators alike.

The tournament itinerary is as follows: competitors will tee off at Malindi Country Club on August 5th, followed by Vipingo Baobab Ridge on August 6th. After a rest day on August 7th, the action resumes at Diamonds Leisure Golf Club on August 8th, continues at Sea-link Mombasa on August 9th, and concludes with a final 36-hole challenge at Nyali Golf and Country Club on August 10th.

Major sponsors including KCB, Bandari DT Sacco, Wine and More, Fertility Point, and others have rallied behind the event, underscoring its significance in the regional sports calendar.

Defending champions such as Emma Pennington (Malindi Vasco Da Gama), Joyce Wanjiru (Vipingo), Mwongeli Nzioka (Leisure Lodge Trophy), Martha Babirye (Mombasa Trophy), and Neema Olomi (Nyali Bowl Trophy) are expected to face stiff competition from top contenders Margaret Njoki, Allysa Jamal, Kellie Gachaga, and others.

As the countdown begins, all eyes are on the Ladies Coast Open 2024, poised to set new benchmarks in women’s golf and further cement Kenya’s reputation as a sporting powerhouse in the region.
