Kenya and Namibia have secured their spots in the semifinals of the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup in Kampala, Uganda.

The quarterfinal matches, held on Day 1 of the tournament at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Namboole, saw Kenya triumph over Senegal with a score of 37-17, while reigning champions Namibia defeated Burkina Faso 38-5.

Kenya’s victory was marked by stellar performances from Eugene Sifuna and Beldad Ogeta, who each scored two tries. The match began with Senegal taking an early lead through a penalty, but Kenya quickly turned the tide.

Center Bryceson Agesa added to Kenya’s tally, and Timothy Okwemba was precise with his conversions. Despite Senegal’s efforts, including two tries from Lamine Sylla, Kenya maintained their dominance throughout the game.

After the match, Kenya’s Eugene Sifuna expressed his delight at the team’s progress.

“We are very happy that the team has qualified for the next stage of the competition. It was not easy to beat Senegal because the same side stopped us two years ago,” he said, highlighting the significance of the victory.

In the second quarterfinal, Namibia, a team with World Cup experience, showcased their prowess by comfortably overcoming Burkina Faso. Namibia’s captain, Danco Burger, emphasized the team’s determination and strategic approach to the tournament.

“We came for this tournament with a lot of motivation and confidence. We decided every match here will be approached like a final and we are happy to win our opening match,” Burger remarked.

The semifinals of the Rugby Africa Cup are scheduled for 24 July, with the final set to take place four days later.
