Zheng Chaohui emerged as the men’s champion at the inaugural Kenya Chinese Golf Association (KCGA) tournament, held at the prestigious Muthaiga Golf Club.
Zheng posted an impressive score of 81 Nett to secure the top spot in a closely contested event, which marked the official launch of the KCGA.
This newly formed association aims to provide a networking platform for Chinese residents and visitors in Kenya, fostering social and economic empowerment through the game of golf.
The tournament featured 75 founder members of the KCGA, all competing for various prizes in what turned out to be an exciting day of golf.
Wang Chong finished just behind Zheng with a score of 82 Nett, followed by Yu Zhong, who also carded 82 Nett, taking third place based on countback.
Jiang Qi secured fourth place with 84 Nett, while Peng Xiliang and Liu Guohua completed the top six with scores of 85 Nett and 89 Nett, respectively.
In the women’s category, Yang Lijing claimed victory with a score of 94 Nett. The 12-year-old Liu Zixiao impressed the field by securing second place with 96 Nett, and Shi Haoran rounded out the top three with a score of 100 Nett.
The event also recognized outstanding performances in specific aspects of the game. Birdie Awards were distributed to several participants, including Zheng Chaohui, Wang Si Long, He Yuan Guo, Jiang Qi, Wang Chong, Wang Yu Lin, Cai Zihao, and Su Biqun.
KCGA chairman, Jack Su, expressed his enthusiasm for the newly formed association, emphasizing its potential to empower the Chinese community in Kenya.
“There is a lot that we can do through KCGA to empower our people and countries, particularly through the game of golf. More reason why we’ve started this association and shall grow together,” Su stated.
In collaboration with Nomadic Golf, the KCGA is also hosting the weeklong Indoor Long-Drive Challenge from September 1-7 at Gold Park Homes on Wood Avenue, Nairobi.
The challenge offers cash prizes of Sh200,000 for both the men’s and women’s categories, further promoting the spirit of competition and camaraderie among the community.
