Kenya: Muigwa crowned 2024 NCBA Faldo Series champion

Date:

Elvis Muigwa held his nerve to win the 2024 NCBA Faldo Series Kenya Championship by two strokes at the Karen Country Club.

On a rough day on the course for most golfers, Muigwa shot three over par 72 on the day to finish the tournament on four over par 218. He was closely followed by Shashwat Harish with a score of six over par 220.

Muigwa was third on the leaderboard after round one, then went to the top in round two and finished in the same position in round three to be crowned champion.

“Im so happy now because I knew I have that potential to win. I have been playing more competitive events that have made me gain more confidence, and Im so happy for that. Coming to the last day of the tournament, I knew I have one mission, just to dominate and play my best to take the tournament,” explained Muigwa.

The top girl in the tournament was Bianca Ngucu with a score of 230 in position nine. Bianca was in the top three in round one and two, but the pressure of playing alongside Elvis Muigwa and Shashwat Harish was too much.

“They are obviously very good golfers, they gave me a lot of pressure because they were sinking birdies while I was trying to just make my pars, but I tried,” said Bianca.

Bianca is one of the four junior golfers heading to the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club in the UAE for the Grand Final. She won the girls 16 and under category.

Also heading to the UAE is Antonia Mbuthia, winner of the girls 21 and under category. Mbuthia won the category with a score of 253.  Sashwat Harish who narrowly lost the title to Elvis Muigwa will also be heading to the Middle East as the winner of the boys 16 and under category.
