Kenya to renew rivalry with Tanzania in AFCON U-20 CECAFA qualifiers

Date:

Kenya is set to reignite old rivalries with Tanzania and Rwanda after being placed in Group A for the upcoming Total Energies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-20 CECAFA qualifiers. The tournament, which will run from October 6 to 20, will take place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

In a draw held on Thursday in Dar es Salaam, Kenya found itself in a competitive group alongside hosts Tanzania, Rwanda, Sudan, and Djibouti. The tournament promises intense competition as these teams vie for the top two spots, which would guarantee them a place in the semi-finals.

Defending CECAFA champions Uganda have been drawn in Group B, where they will face last year’s finalists South Sudan, along with Burundi and Ethiopia. Uganda, a regional powerhouse, is expected to put up a strong defense of their title.

The matches will be held across three venues: Azam Complex, KMC Stadium, and Major General Isamuhyo Stadium, providing a platform for East Africa’s emerging football talent.

The stakes are high, with the two finalists from the tournament earning the prestigious opportunity to represent the CECAFA region in the AFCON U-20 tournament next year. Kenya, having a rich history with both Rwanda and Tanzania, will be eager to make their mark and secure a spot in the continental competition.

This year’s tournament is expected to deliver thrilling football as regional pride and the dream of continental glory are on the line. Football fans from across the region are already gearing up for an exciting October.
