Kenya: Stray Lions C roar back with dominant win over Obuya Academy B in NPCA Division 2

Date:

Stray Lions C delivered a resounding 6-wicket victory over Obuya Academy B in their penultimate Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) 50-Overs League Division 2 match. The match, held at Lenana School on Mazingira Day, saw Stray Lions C recover from a title loss to Ngara B in their previous outing to solidify their second spot in the standings.

Stray Lions, who had been atop the log for most of the season, came into the game with renewed determination after losing the league title to Ngara B last Sunday. Determined to end the season on a high, the Lions displayed their dominance in both bowling and batting.

Obuya Academy B won the toss and opted to bat first but struggled against Stray Lions’ formidable bowling attack. The hosts were bowled out for a mere 98 runs in 32 overs, with the Lions’ bowlers showing no mercy.

In reply, Stray Lions C wasted no time. Their top order aggressively chased down the target, reaching 101/4 in just 8.2 overs to seal the victory. The win keeps Stray Lions C in prime position to finish the season in second place, despite their title dreams being dashed by Ngara B earlier in the week.

Elsewhere in NPCA Division 2, An-Nadil Jamaly Cricket Club A cruised to a 5-wicket victory over Goan Institute B at Saifee Park, while Duncan Harambee’s century propelled Kenya Kongonis Cricket Club B to a commanding 154-run win over Wolves Cricket Club B at Nairobi Club.

With Division Two matches set to continue this Sunday, champions Ngara B will host Swamibapa Development at Ngara Sports Club in South C. Swamibapa, known for nurturing young talent, will be hoping their top order, led by Dhananjay Hirani, Sailesh Kerai, and Divyang Varsani, can rise to the challenge against the title holders.

The NPCA lower division leagues continue to play a critical role in developing cricket talent across the country, serving as a pipeline for senior teams. Stray Lions C’s strong form reflects the competitive nature of the league, with Division Two teams eyeing promotion to the elite ranks, similar to Kenya Kongonis A’s rise to the NPCA Super League.

As the league approaches its conclusion, cricket fans can expect thrilling encounters as teams fight for top honors.
