Kenya: Gor Mahia eye redemption as FKF Premier League matchweek 8 kicks off

Date:

Defending champions Gor Mahia will be looking to bounce back this Saturday as they face Murang’a Seal at the Machakos Stadium.

The record league winners suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nairobi City Stars in Matchweek 7, a result that saw them slide to ninth on the table with seven points. A victory will be crucial for Gor Mahia as they aim to regain momentum and climb the standings.

Saturday’s fixtures kick off with FC Talanta taking on Kariobangi Sharks at 1:00 pm at Machakos Stadium. Sharks currently sit second in the league standings with 12 points, following their 1-1 draw with Shabana FC last weekend. Talanta, on the other hand, are struggling in 15th place, having suffered a 2-0 loss to Mathare United in their last outing. Sharks will be aiming to keep the pressure on table leaders KCB, who have a five-point cushion at the top.

Later in the day, Sofapaka will face off against Kakamega Homeboyz at Dandora Stadium. Sofapaka are 13th in the standings and have had a challenging season so far, while Homeboyz are just one spot above the relegation zone in 16th place with five points. Both teams will be desperate for a win to avoid slipping further down the table.

The marquee match of the day features Gor Mahia taking on Murang’a Seal at 4:00 pm. Murang’a Seal, currently seventh on the log, have been a tough side to beat, and they’ll be looking to add more pressure on a Gor Mahia side seeking redemption after last week’s disappointing result.

On Sunday, the action continues with Shabana FC hosting Nairobi City Stars at Gusii Stadium at 2:00 pm. Shabana are at the bottom of the table with only three points from five games, while City Stars are hoping to build on their recent victory over Gor Mahia.

Mathare United will welcome league leaders KCB FC to Dandora Stadium at 3:00 pm. KCB, unbeaten in seven matches, top the standings with 17 points after a thrilling 3-2 win over Tusker FC. Mathare, in eighth place, are coming off a solid 2-0 win over Talanta and will aim to halt KCB’s unbeaten run.

Elsewhere, Bidco United host Mara Sugar, while Ulinzi Stars square off against AFC Leopards in Kinoru Stadium. Both matches will be played on Sunday afternoon, with teams looking to make an impact in this crucial phase of the season.
