TP Mazembe set for CAF Women’s Champions League return with renewed ambitions

Date:

TP Mazembe is gearing up for an exhilarating return to the CAF Women’s Champions League, marking their second appearance in Africa’s premier women’s club football tournament.

Following their debut in 2022, the Congolese club is set to face some of the continent’s best teams in Morocco, where the competition will unfold from November 9 to 23.

Mazembe’s road to qualification showcased their dominance in the UNIFFAC qualifiers. Under the guidance of coach Lamia Boumehdi, the team produced a series of commanding performances, securing their spot in Morocco with 7 points.

They opened the qualifiers with an emphatic 7-0 victory over CSM Diables Noires du Congo, followed by another impressive 4-0 win against Atlético Malabo from Equatorial Guinea.

In their final group match, Mazembe managed a 1-1 draw against Lekie Football Filles du Cameroun, ending the qualifiers with a remarkable +11 goal difference.

Among the standout players was Esther Diskisa, who emerged as the tournament’s top scorer with four goals. Diskisa’s speed and goal-scoring prowess were central to Mazembe’s offensive success, making her a key figure in their qualification campaign.

Her consistent performance highlights her importance to the team, with fans and teammates alike looking to her to lead Mazembe’s attack in the Champions League.

Coach Lamia Boumehdi has been instrumental in Mazembe’s resurgence, bringing a disciplined and cohesive style of play to the squad.

Known for her ability to foster teamwork and instill a winning mentality, Boumehdi’s leadership has turned Mazembe into a serious contender on the continental stage.

Reflecting on their progress, Boumehdi emphasized the importance of structure and unity within the team, qualities she believes will be vital as they seek to make an impact at the CAF Women’s Champions League.

In their first CAF Women’s Champions League outing in 2022, TP Mazembe’s journey ended at the group stage.

However, with valuable experience under their belt and a strong qualification campaign behind them, the team is optimistic about advancing further this time.

Their return to the tournament is not only a testament to their growth but also a reflection of the rising standard of women’s football in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

As they prepare to take on Africa’s elite, TP Mazembe’s ambitions are clear: to showcase their skill, resilience, and potential as one of the continent’s most promising women’s football clubs.

With Diskisa leading the charge and Boumehdi’s tactical acumen at the helm, TP Mazembe is poised to make their mark on the African stage once again.
