Safaricom Chapa Dimba All-Stars team set for Spain ‘adventure’

Date:

The Safaricom Chapa Dimba All-Stars Team is set for its international training camp in Spain.

The team is currently training at Ligi Ndogo Grounds and will depart Nairobi on Sunday evening, 8th December, for Huesca, Spain, where they will participate in a week-long football training camp.

The All-Star team comprises 32 players—16 boys and 16 girls—scouted from across the country during the eight regional finals held in Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley, Eastern, Coast, Central, North-Eastern and Nairobi.

“At Safaricom, we believe in creating opportunities that empower young people to showcase their talents on global stages. Through this trip, we aim to provide these 32 young boys and girls with a unique and unforgettable experience, offering them the chance to engage with and learn from world-class football professionals. As they embark on this journey, I extend my best wishes to them,” said Safaricom CEO Dr Peter Ndegwa at the unveiling ceeremony.

During their stay in Spain, the team will engage in a series of enriching activities designed to enhance their football experience. They will play against Huesca’s Youth Academy, attend masterclasses led by former professional players, and utilise the state-of-the-art facilities at the Base Aragonesa de Fútbol, the modern sports city of S.D. Huesca. Additionally, they will be exposed to a different climate, providing the exposure needed for international football.

“It is truly exciting to be part of the squad travelling to Spain. Visiting Spain to experience world-class football firsthand or even play there has always been my dream, and now, thanks to Safaricom Chapa Dimba, that dream is coming true. I am immensely grateful to Safaricom and the entire team for keeping their promise to us. I am determined to make the most of this opportunity, learn as much as I can during the boot camp, and apply those lessons to grow my football career,” said Safaricom Chapa Dimba All-Stars player Khamis Nyale.

Two coaches, Chrispine Odindo of Plateau Queens and Evans Oketch of Obunga FC, along with FKF representatives, are accompanying the players to Spain.

The tournament has produced many talented players such as Benson Omala of Gor Mahia, currently a top scorer in the Kenya Premier League; David Majak of Tusker FC; Jentrix Shikangwa of Beijing Beikong; Jane Njeri, Cynthia Livondo and Judith Osimbo among others.

This year, Safaricom has committed over KES 400 million to support the tournament from Mashinani all the way to the national level.

The total prize money for the tournament has doubled to KES 20 million to reward the winning boys’ and girls’ teams from the grassroots, county, regional and national finals. Additionally, 150 Scholarships to TVET colleges will also go to top talent – Best Boy and Girl players – from every county and the winning Girls and Boys Team at the National Final courtesy of the Safaricom and M-PESA Foundations.

The best football players, two boys and two girls, will be scouted during each of the regional finals, to form an All-Star team. They will get an opportunity to visit Spain for a 10-day training boot camp, with two players (a boy and a girl) getting international placement in a youth team in Spain.

There is also additional prize money at the national finals level, which will see the most disciplined team take home KES 100,000, while the Best Girl player, Girls Top Scorer and Girls Best Keeper will take home KES 50,000 each.
