KCB RFC delivered a commanding performance, crushing Impala RFC 64-9 in a thrilling encounter in the penultimate leg of the Kenyan Cup league phase of the season at the KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka, Nairobi, on March 1, 2025.

The match began with KCB asserting their dominance early, as Nick Okullo opened the scoring, with Austin Sikutwa converting for a quick 7-0 lead. Sikutwa soon doubled the tally to 14-0, thanks to an unselfish assist from Isaac Njoroge. Peter Waitere then powered over the line, with Sikutwa maintaining his flawless kicking form for 21-0.

Impala responded with a drop goal, reducing the deficit to 21-3, but KCB hit back immediately. Opondo’s brilliance set up Njoroge, and with Sikutwa’s boot on point, the bankers extended their lead to 28-3. A penalty for Impala brought the score to 28-6, but KCB remained relentless. Levy sprinted through the defense, allowing Njoroge to touch down for 33-6, though the conversion was unsuccessful.

The floodgates opened as Laban Kipsang stormed past Impala’s defenCe to make it 38-6, before Tyson Maina’s converted try pushed the score to 45-6 at halftime.

In the second half, Impala managed another penalty to make it 45-9, but KCB showed no mercy. Njoroge and Sikutwa combined again for a 52-9 lead before Bob Muhati delivered a stunning solo effort, running from his own 22 to cross the line for 57-9.

A moment of controversy followed as Michael Wanjala and an Impala player were sin-binned, but KCB remained focused. Muhati added another try to seal a 64-9 demolition job.

Speaking after the match, KCB RFC head coach Oliver Mang’eni praised his team’s performance but emphasized the need to maintain focus.

“It was a fantastic display from the boys today. We executed our game plan well, dominated possession, and took our chances. However, we still have areas to refine, especially in discipline and game management. This win is a step in the right direction, but we have bigger challenges ahead.”

KCB will travel to Kakamega to face Kabras Sugar on March 8, 2025.
