UEFA Champions League: Round of I6
Venue: Wanda Metropolitano
Time: 2300
What you need to know
Atlético Madrid have it all to do in the second leg of this UEFA Champions League (UCL) last-16 tie against city rivals Real Madrid after losing the first leg 2-1 last week at the Bernabéu.
That defeat extended Atletico Madrid’s sequence of winless H2Hs to four (D3, L1) so the pressure is on Simeone’s side as they must win comfortably to progress, although Sunday’s 2-1 La Liga defeat to Getafe wasn’t ideal preparation.
Real are yet to win away at Atletico in Europe in three previous attempts, but their pedigree in this competition means they will still be the favourites.
Los Blancos are reportedly making plans for Xabi Alonso to succeed Ancelotti in the summer, so the Italian must win some silverware if he is planning to extend his stay at the Bernabeu.
Atletico Madrid might feel hosting the second leg gives them a good chance as they’ve only lost one of their last 14 UCL home games (W9, D4)
