As one of the key fixtures during matchday 32 of the Spanish LALIGA, the likes of Inaki Williams and Brahim Diaz will once again go toe-to-toe when Athletic Bilbao face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu this coming Sunday.
Bilbao, who are currently fourth in the LaLiga table, recorded a convincing 3-1 win against Rayo Vallecano at San Mames on Sunday.
Led with goals by Oihan Sancet (2) and Nico Williams, Inaki was utilized as a second-half substitute by Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde. As it stands, the Ghanaian international has scored five goals and bagged eight assists in 30 league games so far this season.
Reflecting on his side bagging maximum points on home soil, Velverde expressed that every point will be crucial with the view of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season.
“Every time you pick up three points it means a lot because there is little time left and you hurt your opponents’ chances. In that sense, today’s match was very important,” said Velverde.
“We’re coming of the back of a draw and being able to win today was fundamental in terms of being in Europe next year. “LaLiga seasons are long, we’re still in the Europa League and the players are paying for their efforts. We still have games left to achieve our objectives, but first we have to focus on Thursday’s match.”
Much like Williams, Diaz started on the bench during Madrid’s 1-0 win against Alavez at the Mendizorroza on Sunday evening. The Moroccan has been utilised as a bit part player by Carlo Ancelotti this season and has seen an increase in game time over the last couple of weeks.
