The much-anticipated April Babies Monthly Mug is set to light up the fairways of the Nyanza Club Golf Section this Saturday in Kisumu, Kenya.
The tournament, celebrating April-born golfers, will bring together seasoned amateurs and rising talents in a thrilling display of skill, camaraderie, and celebration.
According to the tournament draw released by the club, the action will tee off at 7:30 AM with the opening group featuring H. Huma, Darius, and L. Kongani.
Notably, Nicholas Darius Odhiambo, one of the celebrated April babies, will feature early in Group 2, teeing off at 7:40 AM alongside M. Oduor, I. Noo, C. Agumbi, and T. Omore.
A mid-morning cluster of talent appears between 8:20 and 9:50 AM, with strong showings expected from players like Joyce Osike (Group 3), Daniel Nyerere (Group 4), and Victor Odhiambo, also an April baby. Groups 1 through 9 will have their turning time slots between 9:50 AM and 12:00 noon, before the final wave of groups resumes play at 12:10 PM.
Albert Ojonyo, the tournament chairman and an April baby himself, expressed confidence in the tournament’s success, emphasizing the dedication that has gone into organizing the event.
“We’ve put in a lot of effort this year to make the April Mug memorable, both on and off the course,” said Ojonyo, who also serves as the Director at the National Oil Corporation of Kenya.
“We are extremely grateful to our Gold sponsor, National Oil, for believing in the vision and supporting grassroots golf development.”
The tournament will be played on the White and Black course with players expected to embrace a fun dress code of Polka Dots off-course, adding flair to the celebration. The entry fee stands at KSh 1,000, inclusive of ball pool, with event branding and support further enriched by sponsors including Old Mutual, Safarilink, Jubilee Insurance, Pacis, AAR, and others.
Ojonyo highlighted the essence of the April Mug as more than just a competition, but a celebration of community and sportsmanship.
“This event is not just about winning. It’s about bringing people together, celebrating April birthdays, and growing the golf culture in the region,” he noted.
Several April babies are expected to be the centre of attention both for their performance and their role in the event, including Kevin Omamo, Brian Simbi, Peter Yongo, Elijah Adul, George Okoth, and Victor Oluoch.
Group 10 features C. Achieng, L. Akello, and G. Amlafu alongside Ojonyo himself, teeing off at 10:10 AM. Group 11, featuring R. Obara and Wacuka (S), follows closely behind.
The final groups in the afternoon session will bring the day to a climax, with players like D. Riaroh, P. Otieno, R. Bhayani, and N. Shah rounding out the draw.
With a mix of competitive spirit, vibrant style, and community celebration, this year’s April Babies Monthly Mug promises to be one of the standout events in the Nyanza Club golfing calendar.
