Below is a selection of sporting events for you to enjoy this weekend:

Golf

This year’s BMW PGA returns to Wentworth as the European Tour’s flagship event. The defending champion is Billy Horschel, the American who battled past Rory McIlroy in a dramatic playoff last September. The field is stacked, featuring DP World Tour and LIV stars – Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm, Joaquin Niemann, Patrick Reed, Adrian Meronk, Tom McKibbin, Thomas Pieters, and Dean Burmester are all set to tee it up. A hotbed of Ryder Cup storylines, this event serves both as a prestigious title chase and a crucial form check heading into the team showdown.

Teeing off the FedExCup Fall Series is the Procore Championship. This PGA Tour stop at Silverado Resort attracts a powerful U.S. Ryder Cup contingent, including Scottie Scheffler (World No. 1), Justin Thomas, J.J. Spaun, Collin Morikawa, Russell Henley, Patrick Cantlay, Cameron Young, Ben Griffin, and Sam Burns. With only Pakston Kizzire as last year’s champ, the field also features returning Napa winners like Sahith Theegala (2023 champion) and Max Homa (2021–22 double winner), plus 2024 winner Patton Kizzire and earlier champs Cameron Champ and Kevin Tway. Silverado’s North Course, known for tight fairways and demanding greens, emphasises precision from tee-to-green and confident short-game execution – making it a true test of form and finesse.

Rugby

This weekend’s Rugby Championship promises electric drama as Australia meets Argentina in Sydney at dawn on Saturday, with renewed optimism flowing through the Wallabies’ ranks after their Lions-series win and the return of influential forwards James Slipper and Allan Alaalatoa. They’ll face a red-hot Argentina side buoyed by their historic home win over New Zealand and fresh talent like fly-half Nicolás Roger.

Shortly after, New Zealand and South Africa lock horns in Wellington in what could prove the standout contest of the Championship – the All Blacks are refreshed under their new setup, but the Springboks, led by a fit-again Siya Kolisi, remain fierce favourites with a ruthlessly efficient defence and late-game dominance.

On the women’s front, the quarterfinals of the Rugby World Cup unfold across Saturday and Sunday, showcasing both rising stars and rich narratives, while in South African domestic action later Saturday, the Currie Cup Premier Division heats up with two crucial semifinals.

As England and South Africa gear up for a thrilling T20 series beginning Wednesday 10 September at 19:30, anticipation is soaring for high-octane chases under the lights. The Proteas have named a dynamic blend of experience and youth, with Kagiso Rabada back in the squad (though his ankle will be carefully monitored) while all-rounder Marco Jansen returns from injury and explosive veterans David Miller and Donovan Ferreira are also back in the fold. Captain Aiden Markram has called on young talents like Lhuan‑dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis to seize the moment and shine as South Africa builds momentum toward the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The MotoGP Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera at Misano promises a weekend of precision and spectacle, with qualifying and a sprint race kicking off the excitement on Saturday before the main Grand Prix Sunday afternoon. Misano’s technical layout – with 16 corners packed into just over 4.2 km and its famed Quercia turn – tests rider skill and machine setup to the fullest. Fresh from another dominant run, Marc Márquez looms as the rider to watch, potentially sealing the championship early with another win at a circuit where he’s historically unbeatable.

Meanwhile, over in NASCAR, the Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway takes centre stage as the pivotal termination point for competitors in the Round of 16. This half-mile concrete beast, with its steep banking and high pack intensity, demands flawless execution in few chances to gain ground.
