TECNO has officially broken ground on a landmark 100-pitch renovation project aimed at transforming community football spaces across Africa. The initiative kicked off at the Austin Grounds in Mathare’s Mulango Kubwa area, one of Nairobi’s most vibrant informal settlements.
The ambitious project was unveiled alongside TECNO’s announcement as the Official Global Partner of AFCON Morocco 2025 and the East African tournament in 2027, reinforcing the brand’s long-standing relationship with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The collaboration builds upon TECNO’s sponsorship of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, marking a deeper commitment to the development of African football.
“This partnership between TECNO and AFCON is not only about celebrating football at the highest level, but also about investing in the grassroots — where the true heartbeat of the game lives,” said Hashim Kamau, Member of County Assembly for Kinyago California Ward, during the groundbreaking ceremony.
The event brought together community leaders, local youth, and government representatives, including Area Chief Angela Nzioka, who lauded the project’s focus on underserved communities.
The renovation of Austin Grounds will serve as a model for upcoming upgrades across the continent, targeting neighborhoods where access to safe sports infrastructure remains limited and opportunities for structured youth engagement are scarce.
Through this initiative, TECNO becomes the first mobile technology brand to fund grassroots sports infrastructure on a continental scale, aligning its corporate social responsibility with youth empowerment and community development.
