Karan Sehmi is set to lead the Kenyan charge at the 2025 Roof of Africa challenge currently taking place in Maseru and Matsieng, Lesotho.

The picturesque southern African nation is set to witness the ultimate test of endurance as Kenyans join the world’s top riders for the “Mother of Hard Enduro”, which began on November 19 and is expected to end on the 22nd.

The Kenyan contingent is made up of star rider Karan on bike number 227, alongside seasoned off-road biker Shaun Miller, entered on bike number 295, Quinn Miller #323, and Arjun Mohindra in the Iron class with bike number 559.

Shaun, Quinn, and Karan will be racing in the Bronze category.

This prestigious event is part of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship (HEWC) and is a true benchmark of skill and grit.

The four-man Kenyan outfit is primed to take on the energy-sapping challenge with zest and vigour.

“Finishing alone is a mark of distinction, and competing under the national flag at such a gigantic platform showcases Kenya’s resilience and determination on the continental stage,” Shaun highlighted.

The Roof of Africa is a four-day event that entails documentation and scrutineering, a prologue “Round the Houses,” and two days of mountain racing.

Riders will compete in various categories, including Gold (Pro World Championship riders), Silver and Bronze (experienced competitive riders), and Iron (development riders gaining international experience).

“With the world at it again, Kenya’s riders are determined to make their mark on the global stage,” remarked Renzo Bernardi, the chairman of the Motorcycle Sport Federation of Kenya (MSFK), adding: “This determination will be put to the test as the riders tackle the brutal terrain and technical challenges that the Roof of Africa is known for.”

Excitement is palpable, and the Kenyan quartet carries an air of confidence down South.

“The stage is set, and the engines are roaring. Let the battle begin!” Renzo added.

About Hard Enduro

Hard Enduro is the most demanding discipline in off-road motorcycle sport, built on the legacy of the World Enduro Super Series (WESS) and now recognised worldwide under the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship.

Every round of the HEWC pushes the limits of what is possible on two wheels, from brutal forest climbs to unforgiving mountain passes. Hard Enduro is not just racing; it’s the world’s toughest motorcycle sport, born from the hardest tracks, powered by the riders, and recognised by the world.

Prestige and tradition

First held in 1967, the Roof of Africa is among the oldest and most respected off-road races worldwide. It’s Africa’s premier Hard Enduro race, recognised internationally as the “Mother of Hard Enduro”.

Like the Dakar Rally, which is the ultimate test in rally raid, the Roof of Africa is the ultimate test in Hard Enduro – shorter in distance but far more technical and unforgiving.

Both events symbolise survival, national pride, and the spirit of endurance. Dakar places nations on the world map of motorsport, while the Roof of Africa places Africa on the world map of Hard Enduro.
