Club football was back this week, and there were several interesting developments in Matchday 13 of the 2025/26 LALIGA EA SPORTS season.
FC Barcelona make their return to the Spotify Camp Nou
This past week was a special one for FC Barcelona, who returned to their historic home of the Spotify Camp Nou. The stadium is still undergoing redevelopment work, but Los Azulgranas were able to go back and play their first game there since May of 2023. It was a game to remember too, as Hansi Flick’s side thrashed Athletic Club 4-0.

Real Madrid’s lead at the top is reduced
Real Madrid remain top of LALIGA EA SPORTS, but their lead over Barça has been cut to just one point. That’s because of the Catalan side’s Matchday 13 victory being combined with Los Blancos drawing 2-2 on their visit to a very impressive Elche CF side on Sunday evening.
This is Villarreal CF’s best start to a season
Sitting in third place are Villarreal CF, who defeated RCD Mallorca 2-1 via goals from Gerard Moreno and Tani Oluwaseyi to make it four victories in a row and to make it 29 points from 13 rounds of action. That is the best ever start to a LALIGA EA SPORTS season in club history.
Five wins in a row for Atlético de Madrid
Atlético de Madrid are right behind in fourth place on 28 points, thanks to a great run of late. Los Colchoneros have won five matches in a row, most recently eking out a 1-0 win away at Getafe CF thanks to a late own goal.

Hugo Duro is the hero of the Valencian Derby
Valencia CF defeated city rivals Levante UD on Friday night, in the first Valencian Derby played in over three and a half years. Hugo Duro was the hero for Los Che, scoring the only goal of the game with an overhead kick.

Real Sociedad and RC Celta continue their climbs up the table
With three wins from their past four matches, both Real Sociedad and RC Celta have rapidly risen up the table in recent weeks. The two northern clubs had suffered tough starts to the season, but have recovered of late and are now just outside the European qualification positions.
Isco renews until 2028 and makes his return
Isco played his first minutes of the 2025/26 season in Matchday 13, returning from injury to play and provide an assist in Real Betis’ 1-1 draw with Girona FC. Before the match, the club announced that the midfielder had renewed his contract, extending his deal to 2028.

Andrei Rațiu commits to Rayo Vallecano until 2030
Rayo Vallecano also announced a player renewal this past week, with right-back Andrei Rațiu committing to the club until 2030. The Romanian arrived in Vallecas in 2023 and has become a regular starter and one of the most important players in the squad.
Dani Olmo and Mikel Oyarzabal confirm Spain’s World Cup qualification
At the start of this past week, several important World Cup qualifiers were held and that included Spain’s 2-2 draw with Türkiye. This was the match which confirmed Spain’s place in the tournament, and the goals were scored by FC Barcelona’s Dani Olmo and Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal.
Other LALIGA EA SPORTS players qualify for the World Cup
Several other LALIGA EA SPORTS players also helped their national teams to qualify for the World Cup. Frenkie de Jong of the Netherlands, Axel Witsel of Belgium and Ricardo Rodriguez of Switzerland were just a few of those with something to celebrate this past week.
