FIFA has officially lifted the financial sanction imposed on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), paving the way for the immediate resumption of development funding under the FIFA Forward Programme.
In a letter dated December 15, 2025, world football’s governing body confirmed that its Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee (GACC) had positively reviewed FKF’s progress following a central audit. The decision was reached during the committee’s meeting held on December 8, 2025.
As a result, FIFA resolved that the standard release of FIFA Forward development funds would resume with immediate effect – bringing to an end a suspension that had stalled several football development initiatives in the country.
While welcoming the reinstatement, FIFA noted that FKF will continue to operate under a monthly reporting mechanism on the utilisation of FIFA Forward funds. This enhanced oversight will remain in place at least until the next GACC meeting scheduled for March 2026.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed described the decision as a major milestone in the federation’s ongoing reform process, hailing it as a vote of confidence from FIFA.
“This decision by FIFA is a strong vote of confidence in the direction we are taking as a Federation,” said Mohammed. “Step by step, we are fixing Kenyan football by strengthening governance, improving financial management, and restoring credibility at all levels.”
He added that the outcome was the result of sustained effort by the federation’s leadership and secretariat, reaffirming FKF’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“This outcome has been achieved through hard work, discipline, and collective responsibility. We remain fully committed to meeting all FIFA requirements and ensuring that these resources are used transparently and solely for the development of football in Kenya,” Mohammed said.
The resumption of FIFA Forward funding is expected to provide a boost to FKF’s ongoing programmes, particularly in grassroots development, infrastructure projects, capacity building, and broader efforts to grow the game nationwide.
FKF reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of governance, accountability, and financial integrity as it continues to work closely with FIFA to strengthen football across Kenya.
For Kenyan football stakeholders, the lifting of the sanction marks a critical step toward stability –and a renewed opportunity to refocus on long-term development both on and off the pitch.
