Lesotho’s hunt for a national team coach has begun in earnest ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Likuena’s coaching job fell vacant after the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) axed coach Leslie Notsi last week.
Now, the association has released a statement inviting applications for the job. The new coach is expected to preside over the next qualifiers for AFCON scheduled to start in March.
LeFA says the candidates for the post should have either a CAF A Licence or Pro Licence.
It reads: “The applicant should have coached in Africa and in an elite league.
“The applicant should have coached or been part of a national team structure in the last four years.”
Why was Leslie Notsi axed?
Notsi after failing to meet 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2025 AFCON qualification targets.
Notsi lost his job alongside assistant coaches Bafokeng Mohapi, Abraham Mongoya, and goalkeeper trainer Samuel Ketsekile.
Under Notši, Likuena failed to progress beyond the group stages at the COSAFA Cup in June in South Africa.
Despite failing to qualify for the World Cup, Lesotho competed strongly and even beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in a final qualifying game.
