In a statement performance at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi, Gor Mahia FC delivered a powerful message to the rest of the SportPesa League (FKF Premier League) title contenders by thumping Kariobangi Sharks 4–1 on Tuesday afternoon.

The emphatic victory saw the 21-time Kenyan champions reclaim top spot on the league table, reinforcing their title ambitions as the 2025/26 season edges toward a decisive phase.

From the opening whistle, Gor Mahia asserted their authority, dictating the tempo and pinning Sharks back for long spells. The pressure paid off in the 20th minute when Ben Stanley opened the scoring, finishing off a well-worked move that sent the Green Army into celebration. Gor continued to dominate possession and territory, and just before the halftime whistle, Ebenezer Adukwaw doubled the lead with a clinical finish, giving K’Ogalo a comfortable cushion heading into the break.

Kariobangi Sharks showed some fight early in the second half and briefly threatened a comeback when Humphrey Aroko pulled one back in the 57th minute. However, Gor Mahia’s composure and tactical discipline quickly reasserted themselves. The champions absorbed the pressure, regrouped, and began to stretch Sharks with quick transitions and intelligent movement off the ball.

In the 80th minute, Samuel Kapen restored Gor’s two-goal advantage, effectively killing off any hopes of a Sharks resurgence. Moments later, substitute Felix Oluoch added the fourth with a well-taken goal that underlined Gor Mahia’s attacking depth and confidence.

The 4–1 scoreline was a clear reflection of Gor Mahia’s growing cohesion and hunger. It also marked another step in their recovery from a turbulent start to the season that included early setbacks and off-field challenges. With this win, Gor Mahia moved to 26 points, nudging ahead of close rivals Kakamega Homeboyz, AFC Leopards, and Tusker in what has become one of the most tightly contested title races in recent years. Importantly, Gor Mahia still hold a slight advantage with games in hand, a factor that could prove decisive as the season unfolds.

For Kariobangi Sharks, the defeat deepened their struggles, leaving them languishing near the bottom of the table and under increasing pressure to arrest a worrying slide. Defensive lapses and an inability to sustain intensity against top opposition continue to haunt them.

As Gor Mahia look ahead, attention now turns to their next fixture, a tricky away assignment that will test their consistency and mental strength. If this performance is anything to go by, K’Ogalo appear to be finding their rhythm at just the right time, blending experience with youthful energy as they push relentlessly toward another league crown.
