The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to suspend Samuel Eto’o, President of the Cameroonian Football Federation, for four matches and impose a fine of $20,000, following a decision issued by the CAF Disciplinary Committee.
The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has issued an official statement regarding the suspension of its president, Samuel Eto’o.
FECAFOOT confirmed that it has taken note of the decision issued by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) concerning its president, related to alleged violations that occurred during the Morocco vs Cameroon match.
The Cameroonian FA expressed its objection to the ruling, stressing that the decision did not include clear reasons or justifications for the sanctions imposed.
The federation also pointed out that the procedures followed to reach this decision raise concerns about how far the principles of a fair trial were respected.
CAF said it was investigating match incidents during the quarterfinals between Cameroon and Morocco, and Algeria and Nigeria.
CAF did not refer to any specific incidents at the Morocco-Cameroon match, but the only widely known outlier was the behaviour of Eto’o, who was seen gesturing angrily during the game towards Moroccan counterpart Fouzi Lekjaa, with CAF president Patrice Motsepe also sitting nearby.
In its statement, FECAFOOT confirmed that its president has decided to exercise his right to appeal, in accordance with the legal deadlines and conditions.
The federation concluded by reiterating its full support for Samuel Eto’o and affirmed its commitment to the principles of justice and fair sporting discipline.
Cameroon were eliminated from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after losing 2-0 to Morocco in the quarter-finals.
