Egyptian international Mahmoud Hassan ‘Trézéguet’ currently leads the scoring charts with five goals for record champions Al Ahly as the race for the Golden Boot in the CAF Champions League takes clear shape after the conclusion of Matchday 5.

Trézéguet’s goals have come at critical moments, including strikes that rescued points on the road and ensured Al Ahly maintained their unbeaten record heading into the final round of group matches – underlining his importance as the Cairo giants sealed qualification from Group B

Close behind are two players tied on four goals – Ahmed Atef of Pyramids and Mohamed Abdel Rahman of Al-Hilal Omdurman – with their decisive goals playing a major role in securing passage to the quarter-finals.

Atef’s contributions have been central to Pyramids’ dominant Group A campaign, where the defending champions stormed into the quarter-finals with a game to spare, scoring freely and finishing Matchday 5 with an emphatic 4–1 away win at Rivers United.

Abdel Rahman, meanwhile, has carried much of Al-Hilal’s attacking threat in Group C, scoring in high-pressure fixtures as the Sudanese side battled MC Alger and Mamelodi Sundowns for control of one of the tournament’s tightest groups.

A tightly packed group of players sit just behind on two goals each, reflecting the competitive balance across the groups.

Lucas Ribeiro Santos and Arthur Sales have both found the net for Mamelodi Sundowns, helping the South African champions stay in the qualification race despite dropped points in recent rounds.

Pyramids’ attacking depth is further highlighted by Nasser Maher, also on two goals, while Younes Chouiar has contributed important strikes for RS Berkane in Group A.

Elsewhere, Aboubacar Diakité of Espérance de Tunis, Ramos Kashala of St Éloi Lupopo, and Taddeus Nkeng of Stade Malien have all chipped in with two goals apiece, often in matches that proved decisive for qualification.

With the final round of group fixtures looming, the scoring race remains wide open.

While Trézéguet holds a narrow advantage, the congested chasing pack ensures that one strong Matchday 6 performance could yet reshape the standings — just as goals continue to define success in Africa’s premier club competition.
