A mixed week for Real Madrid
Real Madrid played two games in the past week, with very different results. Last Monday night, Los Blancos fell to a 1-0 defeat at home against Getafe CF. Then, on Friday night, they bounced back with a 2-1 victory away at RC Celta, achieved with a stoppage-time winner from Fede Valverde.
Lamine Yamal keeps FC Barcelona’s lead intact
FC Barcelona remain in first place and hold a four-point advantage over Real Madrid. Their most recent result was a 1-0 victory away at Athletic Club, with a stunning Lamine Yamal strike proving the difference between the Catalan and Basque teams.
Getafe CF enter the top half of the table
Just a few weeks ago, Getafe CF were worried about relegation. Now, they’re up to ninth place thanks to four victories from their past five matches, including last Monday’s win over Real Madrid and this past Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Real Betis.
Villarreal CF see off Elche CF
Villarreal CF remain on course for Champions League qualification, thanks to a 2-1 win against Elche CF in a Valencian Community match-up which took place on Sunday. The result keeps El Submarino Amarillo in fourth place, while Elche CF remain winless since December and just one position above the relegation zone.
Quique Sánchez Flores suffers defeat in first game with Deportivo Alavés
Deportivo Alavés made a coaching change this past week, with Quique Sánchez Flores coming in to replace Eduardo Coudet. It was almost the perfect start for the new coach, as his side were winning 2-1 away at Valencia CF in Matchday 27, but two very late goals for the home side meant Los Che won the game 3-2 at Mestalla.
A draw in Martín Demichelis’ debut at RCD Mallorca
RCD Mallorca also had a coaching debut in Matchday 27, with Martín Demichelis overseeing his first game since being appointed to replace Jagoba Arrasate. The Argentinian had a similar experience to Quique Sánchez Flores, with his team winning 2-0 at CA Osasuna entering the 89th minute, but ultimately drawing 2-2.
The Copa del Rey final is set
The Copa del Rey semi-finals also took place last midweek, with Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad progressing against FC Barcelona and Athletic Club, respectively. The final will take place in Seville on April 18th.

Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad actually met in Matchday 27 of LALIGA EA SPORTS over the weekend, a preview of the upcoming cup final. It was a thrilling back-and-forth game, with Atleti ultimately prevailing 3-2 thanks to a brace from Nico González.
The FC Barcelona presidential election will take place on 15th March
The electoral board of FC Barcelona announced this past week that Joan Laporta and Víctor Font are the two candidates for the presidency of the club, for the elections which will take place on 15th March.
The first retro matchday is coming
LALIGA announced this past week that the first ever retro matchday will take place from April 10th to 13th, with 38 clubs from LALIGA EA SPORTS and LALIGA HYPERMOTION to take to the field that weekend wearing new kits inspired by iconic designs from their past.
