Kenyan long-distance runner Diana Chepkorir has been suspended for four years by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) after abnormalities linked to blood doping were detected in her Athlete Biological Passport (ABP).
According to the AIU, the 23-year-old’s test samples contained “abnormalities consistent with the use of a prohibited substance or method” between June and September 2024.
“The sequence of samples displays an ‘ON’ followed by an ‘OFF’ phase pathognomonic for situations where the red cell mass is artificially increased and the body subsequently downregulates its own red cell production to rebalance the amount of red cells to their normal level,” said the AIU in a statement.
The global anti-doping watchdog added that an Adverse Passport Finding was confirmed after three independent experts unanimously concluded there was a “likely doping” pattern.
Chepkorir, who is represented by Volare Sports, strongly denied the allegations and criticised the process, saying “I received your notice with utmost shock and disbelief… I disapprove of any involvement in any anti-doping violation.”
However, the AIU dismissed her defence, insisting that all testing procedures were carried out correctly in WADA-accredited laboratories. The agency noted that Chepkorir had failed to present any credible scientific explanation for the irregularities detected in her blood profile.
As a result, she was formally charged in September 2025 and provisionally suspended effective 15 September 2025.
All of Chepkorir’s results from June 25, 2024, onwards have been annulled, with any associated medals, titles, and earnings forfeited.
The athlete retains the right to appeal the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Her suspension adds to a growing list of Kenyan athletes recently penalised for doping offences following bans issued to Roncer Kipkorir Konga, Joyciline Chepngeno, and Charles Kipkurui Langat over the past month.
