When Cristiano Ronaldo scored 59 goals for Real Madrid in 2013, few thought that record could ever be broken. Yet, Kylian Mbappé equalled it on Saturday night, scoring on his 27th birthday in Los Blancos’ 2-0 victory over Sevilla FC in LALIGA EA SPORTS Matchday 17. He converted a penalty in the 86th minute of the match, and performed Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous “Siuuu” celebration as a tribute.

Speaking after the game, he said: “It’s incredible to do what Cristiano Ronaldo did, as he is my idol and the best player in the history of Real Madrid. The celebration was for him. I wanted to give him a nod, because he’s always been good to me. He has helped me adapt to Real Madrid, and now it’s good that I can help Real Madrid win games. Today I wanted to share that with him. I have a very good relationship with him, he’s my friend, and I send him and all the Madridistas my best wishes.”

Kylian Mbappé’s incredible year: 42 percent of Real Madrid’s goals

This was Real Madrid and Mbappé’s final game of the year, with their next fixture coming against Real Betis on January 4th, meaning he finishes a remarkable 2025 on 59 club goals, while he has netted another seven for the French national team too. Of Real Madrid’s 140 goals this year, the French forward has scored 42 percent of them.

Mbappé’s goals from January to May helped him secure the Pichichi Trophy for the 2024/25 LALIGA EA SPORTS season, as well as the European Golden Shoe, finishing with 31 total league goals in his first season with the Spanish club. Mbappé once again leads the Pichichi Trophy standings, with 18 goals so far in the 2025/26 league campaign. He is averaging a goal per game, and showing no signs of slowing down.

Breaking down his goals by competition, Mbappé in 2025 has scored 39 goals in LALIGA EA SPORTS, plus 14 in the Champions League, four in the Copa del Rey, one in the Club World Cup and one in the Spanish Super Cup.

The record at Real Madrid for goals in a calendar year is now jointly held by Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappé. The Portuguese posted his tally of 59 club goals in 2013, after netting 58 the previous year. Now, 12 years later, the latest Real Madrid superstar has written his own piece of history, and will aim to break even more records in 2026.
