It has been a fascinating Matchday 21 so far, with all nine games played across the weekend ending in victory for one of the teams. Those results are outlined in more detail below, along with the week’s other headlines.
Mbappé fires Real Madrid past Villarreal CF
Real Madrid had a tough trip in Matchday 21, playing away at high-flying Villarreal CF. Yet, Los Blancos earned a fairly comfortable 2-0 victory, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice. It means the capital city club have won both league matches so far under Álvaro Arbeloa 2-0.

Barça keep hold of first place
With Real Madrid taking three points, FC Barcelona knew they needed a victory against Real Oviedo on Sunday in order to retain first place in the table. Hansi Flick’s duly won 3-0 against the bottom-placed side, with Dani Olmo, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal each getting on the scoresheet.
Atlético de Madrid keep up their winning run at home
By defeating RCD Mallorca 3-0 on Sunday, Atlético de Madrid have now won 13 games in a row at home across all competitions. Los Rojiblancos are unbeaten in front of their own fans this season, and are now sitting in third place in the standings.

Getafe CF fall into the bottom three
Looking at the relegation battle, Deportivo Alavés earned a much-needed win to climb out of the bottom three, defeating Real Betis 2-1 at home on Sunday night. As a result, Getafe CF have slipped down to 18th place, although Los Azulones play their Matchday 21 fixture on Monday night, when they visit Girona FC.
Real Sociedad continue their winning run
Life under Pellegrino Matarazzo has been amazing for Real Sociedad fans, with the new coach remaining undefeated since taking over. The team won again this past weekend, defeating RC Celta 3-1, to mean the American has taken 10 points from a possible 12 since his appointment.

Valencia CF secure an important win
Valencia CF defeated RCD Espanyol 3-2 in a thrilling back-and-forth game, with Largie Ramazani scoring a stoppage-time winner from the penalty spot. That was the second win in a row for Los Che, allowing them to move even further up the table, into 14th place.
Another weekend of no draws
The nine matches held across Friday, Saturday and Sunday in LALIGA EA SPORTS all ended in victories, just as happened the previous Friday, Saturday and Sunday. As well as the results already mentioned, Levante UD edged out Elche CF 3-2, CA Osasuna won 3-1 at Rayo Vallecano and Sevilla FC defeated Athletic Club 2-1.
Girona FC make several signings
The winter transfer market is still open and Girona FC have made several signings over the past week. Their most high-profile acquisition has been that of goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, on loan from FC Barcelona, while Los Blanquivermells have also brought in midfielders Claudio Echeverri and Fran Beltrán.
Two new wingers for CA Osasuna
Another club to make some moves in the transfer market is CA Osasuna. The club from Pamplona signed wingers Raúl Moro and Víctor Muñoz, who are aged 23 and 22 respectively and who will be keen to show what they can do in LALIGA EA SPORTS.
The Copa del Rey quarter-finals are set
The draw for the Copa del Rey quarter-finals was held this past week, with four very intriguing ties coming out of it. In the first midweek of February, we’ll see Albacete Balompié vs FC Barcelona, Deportivo Alavés vs Real Sociedad, Valencia CF vs Athletic Club and Real Betis vs Atlético de Madrid.
