Judith Attyang delivered a calm and composed performance to emerge overall winner of the February Mug at Nyanza Golf Club in Kisumu, a colourful Sunday event played to celebrate golfers born in the month of February.

The tournament attracted more than 60 golfers and featured lively competition across several divisions, including a fun putting contest and special prizes for February-born players.

Attyang returned an impressive 63 nett to secure her first ever mug victory at the club, capping a memorable outing on the lakeside course.

Speaking after her win, Attyang said her approach was built on staying relaxed and enjoying the round.

“I just kept it simple, calm and fun. I didn’t put too much pressure on myself and focused on each shot. I am really happy to win my first mug here,” she said with a smile.

The February Babies category was claimed by Joan Kanjejo, who posted 67 nett to lead fellow celebrants in a strong showing that reflected the spirit of the themed event.

Organisers noted that the mug continues to grow in popularity as members embrace monthly competitions that blend competition and community.

Club captain Julius Omollo led from the front in Division One, winning with 72 nett after edging Nishal Shah on countback. Shah settled for the runners-up slot after matching the same score in a tightly contested category.

In Division Two, Joyce Osike carded 70 nett to secure victory, while Brenda Aida finished second with 71 nett. Division Three honours went to Hazel Miseda, with Sally Hawi taking the runners-up position after a steady round.

Young golfers also had their moment in the spotlight, with Vincent Juma winning the junior title on 73 nett.

Cindy Hawi followed as runner-up with 81 nett, highlighting the growing interest among juniors at the club. Moses Lepiren claimed the guest winner prize with a solid 66 nett, underlining the competitive depth of the field.

One of the day’s most entertaining contests was the putting challenge, which tested golfers’ touch on the greens.

Tito Omore emerged the Master Putter after using only 23 putts over 18 holes, a performance that drew admiration from fellow players and added excitement to the day’s programme.

Bellice Rabach also walked away smiling after winning the hidden hole prize.

Beyond the competition, the February Mug carried a strong sense of giving back. Golfers born in February donated a water pump and pipes to the club, a move aimed at improving course maintenance and supporting long-term development efforts.

Captain Omollo thanked the members for the generous gesture and called on the club community to continue supporting improvement initiatives.

“We thank the February Babies for this donation. It shows love for the club and commitment to its growth. We want more members to step forward as we work to turn this course into a masterpiece at the shores of Lake Victoria,” he said.

He added that collective effort will be key to transforming the club into one of the region’s premier golfing destinations. With ongoing improvements and rising participation, the leadership hopes to attract more tournaments and nurture young talent.

The February Mug once again showcased the vibrant social and competitive spirit at Nyanza Golf Club.

From Attyang’s breakthrough victory to the strong turnout and acts of generosity, the event highlighted a growing bond among members and a shared ambition to elevate the club’s future.
