Captain Ghizlane Chebbak will lead an experienced Morocco for the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026) while talented youngster Kautar Azraf will join the senior national team for the first time.

This comes after a 32-player preliminary squad was named to begin preparations for the competition which the country is scheduled to host from 17 March to 3 April.

Head coach Jorge Vilda Rodriguez unveiled his selection ahead of a training camp that starts this week at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, as the Atlas Lionesses step up their build-up to the continental showpiece.

The squad combines experienced internationals, returning players and emerging talent, reflecting Morocco’s ambition to mount a strong challenge on home soil.

Among those recalled are Yasmin Mrabet, Salma Amani and Sanaâ Mssoudy, while Barcelona’s 18-year-old forward Kautar Azraf has earned her first senior call-up after impressing at youth level.

Azraf, regarded as one of Morocco’s brightest prospects, is expected to add pace and directness to the attack.

Captain Ghizlane Chebbak is included, alongside established figures such as goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi, defender Nouhaila Benzina and forwards Sakina Ouzraoui and Fatima Tagnaout.

Morocco’s preparations come after mixed recent results, including a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso in November and a 2-0 defeat to South Africa in December.

The coaching staff will use the Maâmora camp to refine tactical structures and build cohesion ahead of the tournament.

As hosts, Morocco will look to build on their growing stature in African women’s football.

The Atlas Lionesses reached the final when they last hosted the tournament in 2024 and have since continued to invest heavily in infrastructure and player development.

The 2026 edition promises heightened competition, and Vilda’s blend of youth and experience suggests Morocco are aiming not only to compete but to contend for the title.
