As part of Women’s Month celebrations, CAF Online has dedicated the month of to recognising women’s football pioneers through CAF Women’s Football Series, a five-episode mini-series highlighting unique journeys shaped by passion, commitment and resilience.
The project aims to be both intimate and inspiring. Through five portraits, the series takes audiences behind the scenes of the lives of women who, each in their own way, have contributed to the evolution of African football.
The themes explored are universal: resilience in the face of adversity, balancing a sporting career with motherhood, the often-delicate transition into life after football, and the enduring passion for a sport that for many years remained a territory yet to be fully conquered.
Away from the spotlight of major competitions, these testimonies reveal another side of the game — one defined by sacrifices, personal choices, moments of doubt and powerful comebacks. These are stories where the pitch is more than just grass; it becomes a space for struggle, expression and legacy.
The first episode will go live on CAFOnline.com on 10 March and will feature Winfrida Gerald. At just 18-years-old, the Tanzanian international has already emerged as one of the most promising young talents in African women’s football.
Across the continent’s pitches, her name is already gaining recognition, backed by performances that reflect a maturity well beyond her years.
Fast, determined and already decisive in key moments, she embodies a new generation of African players who are no longer waiting for their turn to shine. Her journey also reflects the gradual transformation of women’s football across the continent: increased visibility, developing structures, and a new wave of talent ready to cross borders.
