Kenya: KCB Rugby face Pirates in Enterprise Cup quarters

Five-time Enterprise Cup winners KCB Rugby are set for a thrilling quarterfinal clash against Black Pirates on 21 March at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku, Uganda.

KCB head into the fixture on the back of a dominant 57-17 victory over Daystar Falcons in the Kenya Cup, a result achieved at the Falcons’ home ground. The Bankers will be keen to build on that momentum as they pursue further success in the knockout competition.

Despite their strong form, KCB are not oblivious to the threat posed by Pirates. Backs coach Jacob Ojee acknowledged their form ahead of the encounter, noting that the Ugandan side remains a formidable opponent capable of causing an upset.

“We are coming off a strong performance against Daystar Falcons, and that gives us confidence, but knockout rugby is a different challenge. Pirates are a quality side, especially at home, and we are not underestimating the threat they pose. We have prepared well, and the boys understand what is at stake,” noted KCB Rugby Assistant Coach Jacob Ojee.

KCB Rugby Captain Bob Muhati runs with the ball during the Kenya Cup match against Kabras Sugar at the KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka, Nairobi, on 7 March 2026.

KCB will, however, have to navigate the fixture without several key figures. Head coach Andrew Amonde and players Vincent Onyala, George Ooro, Samuel Asati, Floyd Wabwire, and Festus Shiasi are away on national duty at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Rio de Janeiro.

In their absence, the team will rely on the likes of Miheso Eric, Andy Cole Omolo, Tyson Maina, Emmanuel Silungi, Brian Wahinya, Elvis Olukusi, Jenkins Kipruto, and others to step up and deliver.

Meanwhile, attention will also be on Nakuru, where KCB Kobs will face Nondescripts at the ASK Showground in another exciting Enterprise Cup fixture. Kobs assistant coach Keith Sseruyange expressed confidence in his squad, emphasising their preparedness for a tough away test.

“It is always tough playing away from home, but the boys are ready for the challenge. We respect Nondescripts, but we are focused on our structures and execution. If we stay disciplined and take our chances, we believe we can get a positive result,” Sseruyange said.

With high-stakes clashes lined up on both fronts, KCB-affiliated sides will be aiming to rise to the occasion and keep their Enterprise Cup ambitions firmly on track.
