Kenya is set to host the inaugural FIFA Series 2026 Women tournament in April, marking a significant milestone for the country’s football landscape and its growing role on the international stage.
Speaking on 24 March 2026, Cabinet Secretary for Creative Economy, Youth Affairs and Sports Salim Mvurya and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed confirmed that the four-nation tournament will take place from 11 to 15 April at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
The competition will feature Kenya’s national women’s team, the Harambee Starlets, alongside Australia, India, and Malawi, bringing together teams from different continents in what is expected to be a highly competitive and historic event.
Boost for women’s football
Beyond the on-field action, the FIFA Series Women tournament is expected to play a key role in advancing women’s football in Kenya and across the region.
Organisers say the event will help strengthen Kenya’s capacity to host international competitions while enhancing critical areas such as event organisation, officiating, and match-day delivery. It also provides a platform to showcase the country’s readiness to stage world-class sporting events.
For the Harambee Starlets, the tournament offers a valuable opportunity to gain international exposure against diverse opposition, as well as to test their progress on a global stage.
“Kenya ready to make history”
FKF President Hussein Mohammed described the tournament as a landmark moment for Kenyan football.
“Kenya is set to make history by hosting the inaugural FIFA Series Women, bringing together four teams from different continents — Kenya, Australia, India, and Malawi — from April 11 to 15 at Nyayo Stadium,” he said.
He added: “We extend our gratitude to FIFA for entrusting Kenya and the Football Kenya Federation with this monumental opportunity. This milestone highlights Kenya’s capability to host world-class international competitions, and we are committed to showcasing our nation’s passion for football.”
Cape Media Limited announced official partner
FKF also announced Cape Media Limited as the official media partner for the tournament, in a move aimed at amplifying coverage and fan engagement.
Mohammed called on fans to turn up in large numbers to support the Harambee Starlets and contribute to the growth of women’s football in the country.
“By showing up in large numbers, we will not only be supporting the team but also helping drive the development of women’s football in Kenya,” he said. “Your energy and support will be key to making this tournament a success.”
The FIFA Series Women tournament is expected to further position Kenya as an emerging hub for international football events while reinforcing ongoing efforts to develop the women’s game locally.
With global attention set to turn to Nairobi in April, the tournament presents both a sporting spectacle and a strategic opportunity to elevate Kenya’s standing in world football.
