The 2026 KCB Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term Two Games concluded on Thursday with champions crowned across football, volleyball, rugby, basketball and lacrosse at the M-Pesa Foundation Academy. Kakamega High School were crowned the 2026 national boys’ football champions after a dramatic 3-2 extra-time victory over St. Mary’s Yala, ending an eight-year wait for the title they last won in 2018.
The Green Commandos made a dream start, with Eugene Bellety Ochieng heading home from a corner in the opening minutes of the match. St. Mary’s Yala responded in the 31st minute through a well-taken free kick by Collins Otieno to level the scores before half-time.
Yala took the lead in the 60th minute when Edwin Odhiambo found the back of the net to put them 2-1 ahead. However, Kakamega refused to back down, with Derrick Wanyonyi scoring the equaliser to send the final into extra time. With the title hanging in the balance, Bellety Ochieng struck again in the 98th minute to complete his brace and seal a memorable 3-2 victory for the Green Commandos.
In the girls’ football final, St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale were crowned national champions after edging out Nyakach Girls in a dramatic penalty shoot-out. The two sides could not be separated after a 1-1 draw in regular time, forcing the contest to penalties. St. Joseph’s held their nerve to win the shoot-out 7-6 and lift the national title.
In girls’ volleyball, Kesogon Secondary School capped off a flawless campaign by defeating Soweto Academy 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-18) to be crowned the 2026 national champions. The Rift Valley side dominated the competition from start to finish, winning every match without dropping a single set.
The boys’ volleyball title went to Chesamisi Boys High School after a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Chepsaita High School. Chesamisi claimed the opening set 25-23 before Chepsaita responded to level the match with a 25-14 win in the second set. Chesamisi regained control by taking the third set 25-23 and wrapped up the title with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.
Earlier in the rugby sevens finals, Butula Boys were crowned national champions after a dominant 26-0 victory over Cardinal Otunga, while Kinale Girls successfully defended their title with a 19-7 win over Kimobo Girls.
Other champions crowned at this year’s games included Agoro Sare, who won the boys’ basketball title; Ikutha Girls, who lifted the girls’ basketball crown; and Musingu Scorpions, who emerged as the national lacrosse champions.
The national champions will now shift their focus to the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games, where they will represent Kenya in Morogoro, Tanzania, from August 12 to 23, 2026.
