Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto won 2-0 away at Green Mamba of Eswatini and will be confident of completing the job in the return leg next weekend.
Shooting Stars of Nigeria were 1-0 winners at home to Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien, with Lucky Emmanuel scoring the only goal in the 25th minute at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta. The Nigerian side face a tough away leg in a tie that remains intriguingly poised.
Al Ahly Tripoli, with several new signings in their squad, were 3-0 winners away at Zanzibar outfit KMKM and will be overwhelming favourites to advance from the tie.
Zambia’s Red Arrows were 2-0 home winners against FC Rouge of Madagascar at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, with Eliya Mundanji heading the opener in the 39th minute before Alassane Diarra doubled the advantage on 57 minutes.
Arrows will take a useful cushion into the return leg in Madagascar, with the winners of the tie to face South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in the Second Preliminary Round.
But Togolese side ASKO de Kara hold a 5-0 advantage from their away leg against AS ZAM of Niger and have one foot in the next round.
Black Bulls of Mozambique edged Atomic Ngomé of Comoros 1-0 in the away leg of their tie, while Kabuscorp de Palanca of Angola won 2-0 at Namibia’s UNAM.
The clash between AS Douanes of Mauritania and Hafia FC of Guinea ended 2-2, giving the Guinean side a useful platform with the home leg still to come. The winners of the tie will face Algeria’s CR Belouizdad in the Second Preliminary Round.
Mali’s FC Diarra will take a slender 1-0 lead over Nations FC of Ghana into the second leg of their tie.
The return legs in the First Preliminary Round will be played from September 11-13.
