The South African Proteas have unveiled their 15-player squad for the upcoming T20 International (T20I) series against the West Indies, set to take place later this month in Trinidad and Tobago.
Head coach Rob Walter has made several exciting selections, including the maiden call-ups of Hollywoodbets Dolphins all-rounder Jason Smith and DP World Lions fast bowler Kwena Maphaka.

Jason Smith’s inclusion in the Proteas squad comes on the back of a stellar domestic season. The 28-year-old all-rounder has been in scintillating form, particularly during the 2023/24 CSA T20 Challenge.
Smith played a crucial role in the final, where he scored a blistering 51 runs against the Lions, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. Over the course of the tournament, he amassed 291 runs at an impressive average of 41.57, coupled with a strike rate of 134.10.
Smith’s medium-pace bowling adds an extra dimension to his game, making him a valuable asset in both the batting and bowling departments.
His all-round capabilities could prove vital for the Proteas, especially in the absence of several key players who were not considered for the series due to injury, workload management, or commitments in ongoing T20 leagues.
Kwena Maphaka: The Young Speedster
At just 18 years old, Kwena Maphaka’s rise to the national team has been meteoric. The fast bowler caught the attention of the selectors with his outstanding performance in the 2024 ICC U19 Men’s World Cup, where he was named Player of the Tournament.
Maphaka’s haul of 21 wickets at an average of 9.71 played a pivotal role in helping the junior Proteas reach the semi-finals of the competition.
Maphaka also made his domestic T20 debut earlier this year for the Lions and gained valuable experience playing for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
