Kabras Sugar on Sunday were crowned the 2024 Dala Sevens champions after thrashing Menengai Oilers 24-5 in the finals played at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu, Kenya.
The sugar men who finished third during the Kakamega Sevens played two weeks ago completed a two-day unbeaten run with the win over archrivals Oilers.
Patrick Lumumba dashed through Oiler’s defense to touch down a center post try that was converted by Jackson Sketta for a 7-0 lead.
The Kenya under 20 sensation would later on open his account with a beautiful try to stretch the millers lead to 12-0.
Rising Shujaa star William Muhanji ensured Kabras would take a healthy 17-0 half time lead after shrugging off two Oilers defender to score between the posts.
In the final half, Oiler’s star boy and Olympian Denis Abukuse unleashed an electric run to leave Kabras chasing dust, reducing Oiler’s deficit to 17-05. However, Jackson Siketa scored a last-minute try to assure Kabras of their victory with a 22-05 score.
At the same time, Kenya Harlequins finished third at Dala Sevens.
The Kakamega Sevens champions, edged out Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technologywith a 22-17 victory.
The win secured Quins the third position, while MMUST had to settle for fourth place.
