Kenya: KCB targets strong finish at Prinsloo Sevens to cap National Sevens Circuit

Date:

Kabeberi Sevens champions KCB RFC are aiming for a strong finish as they head into the final leg of the National Sevens Circuit at the Prinsloo Sevens this weekend in Nakuru.

The bankers, fresh off a second-place finish at the Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa, have been drawn into a competitive Pool B alongside hosts Nakuru RFC, Nondescripts, and Mwamba RFC.

KCB 7s coach Andrew Amonde acknowledged the challenges his team has faced this season, but remains determined to finish on a high note.

“It has been a rollercoaster of emotions for us in this year’s event. It is not the kind of event we expected, but nonetheless, we are going to Nakuru to finish strong and show what KCB is made of. The plan is to win all our matches and finish at the top,” said Amonde ahead of the weekend showdown.

KCB’s consistent performance throughout the six-leg series sees them currently sitting third in the overall standings with 86 points, trailing second-placed Kabras Sugar by just one point and leaders Kenya Harlequin by 11.

KCB captain Jacob Ojee expressed pride in his team’s effort, highlighting their resilience and desire to retain the National Sevens Title.

“The competition has been extremely tough, especially from Kabras and Kenya Harlequin, but we’ve stayed right there with them. We are motivated now more than ever to go out there and solidify our place as a top club in the Kenyan rugby scene.”

Despite their strong run, KCB faces some challenges with injuries heading into the Prinsloo Sevens.

Promising youngster Michael Wamalwa, who suffered a concussion in the previous leg, will be unavailable, while new signing Floyd Wabwire and captain Samuel Asati are both sidelined with ankle injuries.

However, Shujaa’s captain Vincent Onyala, who played a pivotal role in KCB’s Kabeberi Sevens triumph, is expected to make a return after missing the Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa.

KCB RFC will look to leverage Onyala’s experience and leadership as they aim to climb the standings and finish the season on a high.

With tough competition ahead, the bankers are focused on showcasing their strength and determination as they battle for top honors in the final leg of Kenya’s grueling Sevens Circuit.
