Kenyan Premier League: Gor Mahia set to face Posta Rangers as league resumes after two-week break

Date:

The FKF Premier League returns this weekend after a two-week international break, with defending champions Gor Mahia back in action against Posta Rangers on Saturday at Machakos Stadium.

Gor Mahia, who have only played one match so far—a dominant 4-0 victory over Mathare United—will be looking to build on that performance.

Despite being three games behind most of their rivals, the defending champions are eager to make a statement and close the gap in the standings.

Saturday’s action also features league leaders KCB FC, who will host a struggling Kakamega Homeboyz side.

KCB have made an impressive start to the season, remaining unbeaten after four games and leading the standings with 10 points. They will aim to extend their lead at the top and fend off competition from second-placed Kariobangi Sharks, who play on Sunday.

Murang’a Seal, fresh off a 1-1 draw with Mara Sugar in their previous outing, will take on Bandari FC at the Mombasa Sports Club.

Bandari, sitting in 5th place, will hope to build on their narrow 1-0 win over Sofapaka. Meanwhile, Shabana FC will seek their first win of the season when they visit Mara Sugar at Awendo Stadium.

Kakamega Homeboyz, who lost 1-0 to Kariobangi Sharks in their last match, will hope to bounce back against a strong KCB side. Their poor form places them in the lower half of the standings, with just two points from three matches.

Sunday’s matches promise to be equally exciting, with Kariobangi Sharks looking to maintain their unbeaten run as they face AFC Leopards. Sharks and Leopards are both tied on 10 points and sit second and third on the table, respectively. This game could have significant implications for the title race early in the season.

Elsewhere, Tusker FC will aim to recover from a frustrating 1-1 draw with Police FC when they play FC Talanta. Ulinzi Stars, who have struggled with three straight losses, will be desperate for points against Police FC, who themselves have just one point.

The league’s bottom three—Nairobi City Stars, Ulinzi Stars, and Sofapaka FC—are already feeling the pressure and need positive results soon to climb out of the relegation zone.

With top clashes and teams looking to solidify their positions, Matchweek 5 promises to be crucial in shaping the early season narrative. Fans can catch the action on Azam TV and KBC over the weekend.
