CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations kicks offs in Egypt

Date:

The CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2024 begins on Saturday, with two exciting Group A matches scheduled to set the tone for the tournament.

Morocco will face Tanzania at 12:00 GMT, followed by hosts Egypt taking on Ghana at 13:30 GMT on the shores of Hurghada.

The competition, which runs until October 26, will see eight teams battle for the continental crown and a coveted spot at Africa’s first FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Seychelles next year.

Egypt enters the tournament as hosts and last edition’s runners-up, looking to begin their campaign on a strong note.

Head coach Mustafa Lotfy acknowledged the strength of the group, saying, “Our group is the strongest of the two groups. Ghana has a great team with good players. The matches will certainly not be easy, and any of the four teams in our group can reach the final.”

Lotfy’s confidence comes from thorough preparations, having studied the strengths and weaknesses of their group opponents.

On the other hand, Ghana’s coach Daniel Neequaye Kotey is unfazed by the prospect of facing the hosts.

“No, there’s no pressure on me or my team. We’ve played against Egypt before and even defeated them in Accra,” said Kotey. “We are here to surprise them,” he added, stressing the importance of staying calm under pressure.

The opening match between Morocco and Tanzania promises to be equally thrilling.

Morocco’s coach expressed the balance within Group A, noting, “Egypt will have an advantage as hosts… Tanzania, Ghana, and ourselves will fight for a place in the knockout phase.”

Meanwhile, Tanzania’s coach Jaruph Juma highlighted his team’s preparation, stating, “It will be an exciting match because Morocco is an experienced and good team… It will be one of the best matches in these finals.”

The stage is set for an exhilarating opening day as Africa’s best beach soccer teams kick off their quest for continental glory and a chance to shine on the world stage.
