Kenya: High stakes as Masengeli Super Cup reaches semifinals

Date:

The Masengeli Super Cup is heating up in Saboti, as teams prepare to take the stage in the penultimate phase of this year’s tournament. The second edition of the competition, sponsored by Gilbert Masengeli, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, National Police Service, promises thrilling action, bigger prizes, and expanded categories.

On Christmas Day, Kapretwa Field will come alive as four junior teams and four ladies’ teams compete in their respective semifinals. Action kicks off at 10:00 AM with defending champions Blessed Starlets taking on Royal Army Ladies, followed by Tiger Ladies locking horns with Red Arrow Ladies at 12:00 PM.

In the juniors’ category, Aquinas Juniors face Blessed Juniors at 2:00 PM, while Saboti Combined Juniors square off against Kipsagam Juniors in the 4:00 PM showdown. The stakes are high, with a Sh150,000 cash prize and a trophy awaiting the winners in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. Runners-up will pocket Sh100,000, while third-place finishers will earn Sh50,000. Additionally, top players and scorers will receive shields in recognition of their outstanding performances.

The men’s semifinals kick off on Thursday, December 26, at 3:00 PM, with Rising Star FC clashing with Red Arrow FC in a match expected to draw large crowds. On Friday, defending champions Blessed Dreamers FC take on Koykoy FC in the second semifinal at the same time.

Speaking about the tournament, sponsor Gilbert Masengeli expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the competition. “This tournament has been an incredible platform to keep our youth engaged during the Christmas holidays,” he said. “Many of them are back home in the village, and I wanted to give them an opportunity to showcase their talent, stay active, and bond with the community. The level of competition has been impressive, and I’m proud to see the passion and discipline from all the teams involved.”

For the first time, the Masengeli Super Cup will also feature volleyball finals. Four teams—Kapretwa, Muroki, Gitwamba, and Saboti—will battle for top honors, adding a fresh dimension to the tournament. The volleyball matches are set to bring even more excitement to the competition, as the sport continues to grow in popularity within the region.

Last year’s inaugural edition saw Blessed Dreams and Blessed Starlets crowned champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively. This year, the tournament has expanded to include more teams, and the stakes are higher with increased cash prizes and the introduction of volleyball.

As the tournament enters its decisive phase, fans can expect thrilling action, nail-biting finishes, and unforgettable moments. The Masengeli Super Cup is not just about competition but also about fostering unity, nurturing talent, and giving back to the community during the festive season.

Saboti residents and football enthusiasts from the surrounding areas are encouraged to turn up in large numbers at Kapretwa Field to support their favorite teams and celebrate grassroots sports development. The stage is set for an electrifying showdown as teams battle for supremacy in this year’s Masengeli Super Cup.
