KCB RFC has enlisted the expertise of DHL Stormers RFC forwards coach Rito Hlungwani to fine-tune their squad ahead of a high-stakes Kenya Cup showdown against defending champions Kabras Sugar RFC.
The top-of-the-table clash is set for March 8 at the ASK Grounds in Kakamega, with both teams vying for the coveted top spot in the regular season, KCB is leaving nothing to chance.
Hlungwani’s inclusion is expected to strengthen the team’s tactical approach, particularly in set-pieces, breakdown efficiency, and forward dominance.
“I am impressed with the level of talent and discipline within the KCB squad,” Hlungwani said during a training session at the KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka, Nairobi. “Our focus has been on refining key areas to ensure the team is well-prepared for the upcoming challenge.”
Currently leading the Kenya Cup table with 50 points after nine rounds, KCB RFC aims to secure a home final – a feat the club last achieved in 2006. However, their title ambitions hinge on overcoming a formidable Kabras side in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
KCB RFC head coach Oliver Mang’eni welcomed Hlungwani’s input, emphasising its significance in their preparations.
“Having a coach of his calibre working with our forwards is a big boost. Kabras is a strong side, and we need to be at our best. The pressure is on them to perform in front of their home fans, while our focus remains on executing our game plan,” Mang’eni said.
The highly anticipated match will not only determine the league leader but also grant the winner the hosting rights for the Kenya Cup final, provided they progress through the semi-finals.
