Salah, Osimhen, Hakimi vie for prestigious CAF men’s player of the year award

Date:

Egypt’s Mo Salah, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi are the three final players set to battle for the coveted 2023 CAF men’s Player of the Year award.

CAF on Thursday confirmed the trio after cutting down the list which was originally 10 players.

Sadio Mane of Al-Nassr, Sofyan Amrabat of Manchester United, and Yousef En Nesyri of Sevilla are among those who will be missing out.

The question of who among Achraf Hakimi, Victor Osimhen, and Mohamed Salah deserves the esteemed award will now be hotly debated.

Many people think Osimhen will win the honor in the end. He is now among the most valuable strikers in Europe thanks to his achievements with Serie A winners Napoli.

Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain has excelled both with the Moroccan national team and in Ligue 1.

Salah has placed second the last two years and has won the prize twice.

A panel made up of the CAF Technical Committee, media experts from Member Associations, head coaches and captains of Member Associations, and clubs participating in the Interclub competitions’ group stages casts votes to determine the ultimate winner of each category.

On Monday, December 11, 2023, at 19:00 local time (18:00 GMT), the Awards Gala will be held at the Palais des Congrès, Movenpick, Marrakech, Morocco.
