CAF Confederation Cup: Zamalek and RS Berkane secure spots in next round

The stage is set for a grand finale on Match Day 6 of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, as defending champions USM Alger lead the charge into the Quarter-Finals, despite a 2-1 stumble against Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi.

The Algerian titans, holders of the coveted CAF Super Cup title, are among five clubs that have already booked their spots in the knockout stages with a game to spare.

Joining USM Alger are Abu Salem, who will be making their Quarter-Final debut, Moroccan stalwarts RS Berkane, Malian heavyweights Stade Malien, and Egyptian giants Zamalek.

This elite group of qualifiers boasts an impressive collection of past Confederation Cup triumphs, with all but the debutants Abu Salem having tasted glory in previous editions of the tournament.

As the competition heats up, all eyes are on Group A, where Egypt’s Modern Future is on the brink of qualification, needing only a draw to secure their passage.

However, they face a formidable challenge from Al Hilal Benghazi, who have their sights set on snatching the coveted second spot with an away win.

The plot thickens in Group C, where Dreams FC of Ghana leads the pack with 12 points. Rivers United from Nigeria, hot on their heels with 9 points, hopes to close the gap. Meanwhile, Club Africain, also sitting on 9 points, prepares to face Academica do Lobito of Angola.

Despite the Angolan side being out of the running for the Quarter-Finals, they could still shake the group’s dynamics with an upset against the Tunisians on their home turf.

As Match Day 6 looms, it’s not just about securing a place in the next round but setting the tone for the title chase.

With the battle lines drawn and the stakes high, the final group matches are poised to be a showcase of strategic play, nerves of steel, and the indomitable will to win that characterizes African club football at its best.
